Books to Satisfy Your Hunger

I don't know about you, but I'm still feeling anxious for the next Hunger Games book. There is something wicked and fun about having an enormous cliff hanger ending in a series you adore. But, instead of pulling my hair out and crying every night into my pillow while I decide just EXACTLY how Ms. Collins must continue the series in order to make me happy (*cough*Gale*cough*), I've taken a different route. I've decided to find some other exciting and wonderful books to fill that empty void. And, since I have an inner librarian urging me on, I've decided to share my list of Books To Satisfy Your Hunger (terrible pun, I know):

Dystopia: In which we hope our future doesn't look like this

Unwind by Neal Shusterman
Life As We Knew It and the dead and the goneby Susan Beth Pfeffer
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Fantasy: To escape from real life

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman
The Thief, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
Graceling and Fireby Kristin Cashore
Study trilogy by Maria V. Snyder
Airman by Eoin Colfer
the Abhorsen Trilogyby Garth Nix
Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull

Paranormal: Could be real...

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester
Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare
The Host: A Novelby Stephenie Meyer

Got something to tide you over? Please share!

If you buy through my Amazon linkage,
I will get a very small percentage

  1. Great post! I really want to check out Unwind and Life as we knew it.
Oh, and for the ultimate dystopia, I'm reading 1984 right now.

  2. Bookshelf Monstrosity, I LOVED 1984! I should have put on Fahrenheit 451 too!

  3. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
So you're rooting for Gale? I can't decide who I hope she ends up with -- I'm torn between them. Of course I'm trying not to think about it too much since it will be so long until we can find out, and as you said, you can drive yourself crazy analyzing it in the meantime! (So thanks again for all the suggestions!)

  4. I'm team Peeta, but I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing to end up with Gale. Both are good.

I just got Maze Runner from the library. Woot!

Also to fill my time I have more classics on my shelf, and Bran Hambric from Kaleb Nation. There is no end to books.

  5. Gayle, I'm not an over-zealous Gale supporter, but I am definitely leaning his way. Hope you enjoy some of these books!

Amy, I would probably reconcile myself to Peeta if I had to :) I've got to get my hands on Bran Hambric!

  6. Several of those are on my list... including the Hunger Games books.

That's right, I'm probably the last person around to read them. Just haven't gotten there yet!

  8. I know how you feel - I'm not over CATCHING FIRE yet. I just HAVE to know what's going to happen next. Since that's not going to be happening anytime soon, I think I'll check out some of the titles on your list. I've only read a few of the books you mentioned, so thanks for the recs!

  10. What a great post, Melissa! I have my eye on a few of the books on your list. I'm a Peeta girl myself but it's hard for me to really root for Gale because I don't feel like I know him. Anyway, I almost wish I hadn't read Hunger Games until all three books are out because it's so hard to wait.

  11. Kim, I think part of the fun is in the anticipation. Then again, I HATE the waiting. I totally understand your reluctance for Gale, but there is something about a childhood friend that makes me root for him...
